35 Bus Service under threat

by Lucy Care on 22 June, 2018

Notts and Derby plan to end the 35 bus service https://bustimes.org/services/35-derby-bretton-avenue-havenbaulk-avenue from 20 July.  Local Lib Dems are campaigning to save it. The 35 Bus service only takes about £37 per day, even including the money for ‘free’ bus journeys. This is not enough to pay for the drivers’ wages, fuel, cleaning, insurance and so on. Local […]

What are those cameras?!

by Lucy Care on 18 September, 2015

Cameras have been placed on unexpected corners around the older, narrow roads of Littleover village. These aren’t to catch speeding vehicles but to help work out how much of the traffic using these roads are using them as a ‘rat run’ or short cut – and if so in which way. They’ll probably be there […]

Water supply repairs

by Lucy Care on 25 March, 2015

Drive down Constable Drive and today you’ll meet temporary traffic lights – and probably several water tankers.  At times the water pressure in Littleover, especially near here at the top of the hill, has been low.  What is going on? Water is being pumped ino the reservoir, not because its usual supply needs repair, but […]

Check your young trees…

by Lucy Care on 25 November, 2014

After the Royal Derby Hospital was built, a row of trees was planted along the boundary with Kings Drive which in time would help to obscure the buildings from Jackson Avenue.  After a shaky start (quite a lot died and had to be replaced) they are now looking good. But if they aren’t looked after […]

Making it easier to walk to school

by Lucy Care on 23 November, 2014

A week ago I passed on a complaint from a local resident to the Council about the state of the pavement at the top of Pastures Hill. If it wasn’t for the wide grass verge, pupils would have been walking in the road because of the trees and other plants growing across the path.  I […]

Cut betting shop gambling down in size.

by Lucy Care on 16 November, 2014

Derby Lib Dems join call to cut betting shop gambling down in size. Fixed odds betting terminals, the electronic roulette machines in betting shops, have been called the crack cocaine of gambling.  Since 2005 they have been allowed in betting shops and people can gamble £100 every 20 seconds. Evidence from the gambling industry suggests […]

Drain repairs… Queens Drive

by Lucy Care on 16 October, 2014

If the drains – properly called ‘gulleys’ – in the gutter along side roads don’t drain, not only does it mean puddles and flooding, it also means that the tarmac wears out faster – the extra water washing it away that bit quicker. For all these reasons it’s good to make sure that they are clear. Several […]

Ring Road / Uttoxeter Road lights

by Lucy Care on 16 October, 2014

Again tonight the right turn filter from Manor Road into Uttoxeter New Road (to town) didn’t change to green when I expected it.  The traffic from Kingsway towards the hospital was flowing, and my queue still had to wait.   This was the third time in as many journeys (and days). It’s happened before.  It […]
